Squirrel Class

Welcome to Emeralds!

In Emerald Class, we learn through a range of exciting and inspirational topics. This year we are learning about the village of Branston, then setting sail with Sir Joseph Banks to Australia, meeting the wildlife in Africa, flying with Amelia Earhart and finally landing in the rainforest. By being immersed in such engaging topics, the children have a great deal of fun when learning. They support each other to achieve their goals and encourage one another to persevere.

Everyone is welcome in Emerald Class. If you would like to volunteer please speak to a member of staff.

Below you will find the learning that the children have taken part in each term.

This term we are taking to the air to learn about the history of flight and the courageous explorer Amelia Earhart. Along the way we will be creating music inspired by air and creating beautiful sky scenes in our Art lessons.

Amazing Africa

This term we will be learning about the amazing continent of Africa. We will be learning about African animals, how they are adapted to their habitat and whether they are herbivores, ominvores and carnivores.  Through our Geography lessons, we will explore Cape Town and compare it to rural Africa as well as our own village of Branston. Out class book is 'All Aboard for Bobo Road': I wonder what we will discover!

This term our class book is 'All Aboard for Bobo Road' by Stephen Davies. We asked ourselves, what would it be like to travel on the Bobo Road bus? The children in Emerald Class acted out the story so they knew what it would be like to travel along 'the most beautiful road in the world.'

Exploring and investigating 2D shapes

African inspired bags. The children designed, made and evaluated felt bags. They sewed up the edges of the bag, created a lovely woven section at the front and used Velcro as a fastener. Well done, everyone!

Wonderful Water

This term we are learning about the Lincolnshire naturalist Sir Joseph Banks who travelled on the HMS Endeavour with Captain Cook to discover new species of animals and plants in Australia. The children will also take a voyage on the HMS Endeavour: learning about the ship itself and what it was like to travel to Australia.

'Drop your books and boogie!' Children raised money for the NSPCC and awareness of important issues by taking part in the 'Drop your books and boogie' day. We even took part in a class conga around the school!

A timeline to show when Sir Joseph Banks lived.

Discovering facts about Sir Joseph Banks. The children had a set of questions about Sir Joseph Banks. They had to find the answers which were hidden around the classroom. We learnt lots about him!

Brilliant Branston

The children have been learning about the brilliant village of Branston. They have learnt Branston's history by looking at old photographs and taking a walk around the village to find special features such as the waterwheel.

The children enjoyed looking at pictures from Branston school from a long time ago and present day. The children ordered the pictures chronologically and then compare them.

Design and making pivots. The children were inspired to create their own pivots after playing on the seesaw and other play equipment in Branston park. They investigated how to make a successful pivot, before designing and making their final design. The children then evaluated their pivot. Well done everyone!

Our lovely walk around 'Brilliant Branston.' We found lots of interesting things!
