Emeralds

Welcome to Emeralds!

In Emerald Class, we learn through a range of exciting and inspirational topics. This year we are learning about the village of Branston, then setting sail with Sir Joseph Banks to Australia, meeting the wildlife in Africa, flying with Amelia Earhart and finally landing in the rainforest. By being immersed in such engaging topics, the children have a great deal of fun when learning. They support each other to achieve their goals and encourage one another to persevere.

Everyone is welcome in Emerald Class. If you would like to volunteer please speak to a member of staff.

Below you will find the learning that the children have taken part in each term.

Wonderful Water

This term we are learning about the Lincolnshire naturalist Sir Joseph Banks who travelled on the HMS Endeavour with Captain Cook to discover new species of animals and plants in Australia. The children will also take a voyage on the HMS Endeavour: learning about the ship itself and what it was like to travel to Australia.

'Drop your books and boogie!' Children raised money for the NSPCC and awareness of important issues by taking part in the 'Drop your books and boogie' day. We even took part in a class conga around the school!

Discovering facts about Sir Joseph Banks. The children had a set of questions about Sir Joseph Banks. They had to find the answers which were hidden around the classroom. We learnt lots about him!

Brilliant Branston

The children have been learning about the brilliant village of Branston. They have learnt Branston's history by looking at old photographs and taking a walk around the village to find special features such as the waterwheel.

The children enjoyed looking at pictures from Branston school from a long time ago and present day. The children ordered the pictures chronologically and then compare them.

Design and making pivots. The children were inspired to create their own pivots after playing on the seesaw and other play equipment in Branston park. They investigated how to make a successful pivot, before designing and making their final design. The children then evaluated their pivot. Well done everyone!

Our lovely walk around 'Brilliant Branston.' We found lots of interesting things!

2019 Residential to Rand Farm Park. The children had a fantastic time looking after the animals, visiting an orchard and making delicious carrot muffins. The indoor play barn was good fun too!

Autumn 1

Welcome back everyone to another exciting term at Branston Infants. We hope you all had a wonderful Summer holiday and now your children are ready for lots of lovely learning experiences. Our topic this term is Castles and Turrets. This topic involves us studying medieval times and learning about what life was like to live and work in a castle.

We are planning to visit Lincoln Castle to find out what it was like to be a knight. We will send more information nearer the time.

On Tuesday 13th September it is National Roald Dahl Day the children and staff will be dressing up as a character from one of his books. We will be reading lots of Roald Dahl stories and finding out about his life.

Sports week begins on Monday 26th September when we will be taking part in lots of different sporting activities and events; during this week we will also be learning about keeping our body healthy.

The children will be finding out about where and when the fire started, they will also be writing diary entries just like Samuel Pepys. The children will be designing and baking their own bread, so get ready for a bread tasting session at home!

On Friday the 11th November we will be having a remembrance service; during the week we will be discussing the significance of this day.

Our Christmas celebration this year will be a nativity production held in the school hall and a carol service at the church. The children will soon be starting preparation by learning lots of lovely songs along with taking part in Christmas craft activities.

Spring Term 2017

Welcome back to school. We hope you had a super Christmas break and that Santa brought you everything your heart desired! The children have been full of news and we have enjoyed listening to their excitement as they have told us all about their Christmas day.

We have lots of great activities for the children to take part in this term. Our theme is 'Shiver Me Timbers!' and already the children are filled with enthusiasm. They loved making pirate biscuits and some even had a few chocolate chip weevils in them! Over the coming term we will be looking at treasure maps, going on a pirate adventure and be building a model pirate ship! We will also be having a Pirate Day when we will dress up and take part in a treasure hunt!
