Welcome to Sapphires 2019-2020!


In Sapphire class we are working on developing independent learners.  We make our topics as exciting and inspiring as possible so the pupils within our care are fully engaged.  We do this by having active and exciting lessons.

In Sapphire class we work hard, but we make sure that this hard work goes hand in hand with lots of fun!

We always welcome parent helpers in our units so feel free to get in contact and we will find some time for you to come and see what we are up to.

Below you will find out what we are up to this term. Please take some time to find our what your child is up to in school and how you can help at home.


Our topic this term is AFRICA!


We enjoyed weaving our African bags

We went on a 3-D shape hunt around the school

We used cubes to create bar models to help us with our maths

We designed our own playground equipment with a moving part

We tested different materials to see how water proof they were

Having tested different materials we made our own boats!

We acted out The Rainbow Fish!

We enjoyed our walk around Branston village.


We love using the Beebots. We designed our own tracks for them to travel around. We are learning to write algorithms!

We have been measuring lots of things in Maths

We have been working hard on our multiplication

We had a Carol Service at church. We read some prayers.

Our disco was great fun!

Father Christmas called to see us with one of his elves.

We made Jackson Pollock style pictures on the computers.

We have been sorting 2D and 3D shapes. We have been learning the names for the shapes and also finding out about their properties.

We had a First Aid day and Sean came to tell us about what we should in an emergency. We role played calling 999 and we even had a turn at some CPR!

The first week has been busy! We have all been practicing getting into new groups for our activities and have been thinking about the resources that are available to help with our learning as this helps the children become much more independent learners and take responsibility for their own progress.


Our timetable is very busy and we are getting a lot of learning packed into our school day. The children have enjoyed the challenges this week and have been really sensible as they get to know the new class routines.

We have enjoyed creating habitats for dinosaurs in our artwork

We enjoyed sharing our acrostic poems with our friends in the sunshine.

E-Safety. Mr Jefferies taught us a lot. He told us not to tell anyone our personal information and if we feel uncomfortable with something we should tell a trusted adult.

The planetarium was great! We impressed our visitor as we knew all the names of the planets!

We found frozen aliens on the playground! We had to work out how to get them out of the blocks of ice quickly without damaging the aliens.

We went to church to have a look around. While we were there we had a wedding!

We flew to China! We went to the airport. We had to go through passport control! We spent time in the departure lounge in the cafe and at the bookshop before our flight.

We did our own Collective Worship for the whole school! We did a great job!

We have been writing riddles this week. We shared them with Emerald class. We had great fun trying to work them out!

We have been working on greater than and less than this week. Can you compare these numbers and choose the correct sign?

We say a prayer every lunchtime. Each day someone volunteers to make a prayer of their own for us to share.

We wrote our own versions of the traditional tale 'The Gingerbread Man'. We then shared them with our friends.

Team Teach- We have been helping each other learn our spellings. We have been trying really hard.

Sapphire class has 2 new school councillors!

September 2017- Sapphire class are settling in beautifully!

We loved the skate park and managed to have lots of fun despite the rain!

The climbing wall was great fun! We climbed to the top! It was brilliant!

Belton House was great! We toured the gardens, went pond dipping and had fun on the play park!

Spring Term 2017


Welcome back to school/ We hope you had a super Christmas break and that Santa brought you everything your heart desired! The children have been full of news and we have enjoyed listening to their excitement as they have told us all about their Christmas day. 


We have lots of great activities for the children to take part in this term. Our theme is 'Shiver Me Timbers!' and already the children are filled with enthusiasm. They loved making pirate biscuits and some even had a few chocolate chip weevils in them! Over the coming term we will be looking at treasure maps, going on a pirate adventure and be building a model pirate ship! We will also be having a Pirate Day when we will dress up and take part in a treasure hunt!

Autumn 2



Hope you have all had a lovely half term. Our topic this term is ‘London’s Burning!’ We will be looking at the Great Fire of London. The children will be finding out about where and when the fire started, they will also be writing diary entries just like Samuel Pepys. The children will be designing and baking their own bread, so get ready for a bread tasting session at home!

On Friday the 11th November we will be having a remembrance service; during the week we will be discussing the significance of this day.

Our Christmas celebration this year will be a nativity production held in the school hall and a carol service at the church. The children will soon be starting preparation by learning lots of lovely songs along with taking part in Christmas craft activities.

Autumn 1



Welcome back everyone to another exciting term at Branston Infants. We hope you all had a wonderful Summer holiday and now your children are ready for lots of lovely learning experiences. Our topic this term is Castles and Turrets. This topic involves us studying medieval times and learning about what life was like to live and work in a castle.

We are planning to visit Lincoln Castle to find out what it was like to be a knight. We will send more information nearer the time.

On Tuesday 13th September it is National Roald Dahl Day the children and staff will be dressing up as a character from one of his books. We will be reading lots of Roald Dahl stories and finding out about his life.

Sports week begins on Monday 26th September when we will be taking part in lots of different sporting activities and events; during this week we will also be learning about keeping our body healthy.
