Branston Church of England Infant Academy
'The Best We Can Be'
Did you know?
The school 'year' lasts for 190 days, which leaves 175 days per year for your child to enjoy family time and holidays
At Branston Church of England Infant Academy, we regularly monitor your child's attendance at school. We appreciate that sometimes an absence is unavoidable, but we know that any absence from school will affect your child's learning.
If your child's attendance falls below 95%, we will contact you to inform you via letter, that your child's attendance has dropped and will be monitored. The useful chart below highlights the impact of non attendance and has been categorised into three stages, showing the impact low attendance has. If your child's attendance does not improve, we will seek a meeting to discuss ways in which we can work together to help and remove any barriers to improve it. This may involve working with outside support agencies such as an Education Welfare Officer.
All pupils who are in the “Green Zone” have an attendance level of 95% or more. This zone recognises patterns of good to excellent school attendance. Pupils who fall within this are more likely to do well at school and achieve good results. | All pupils who are in the “Amber Zone” have an attendance level of between 90 to 94.9%. Pupils with this level of attendance are a cause for concern and are at risk of under achieving at school. | All pupils who are in the “Red Zone” have an attendance level of below 90%. Pupils who fall within this zone are regularly absent from school and are significantly less likely to achieve their potential. Such pupils will be closely monitored by the Education Welfare Service. |
Comment from Lincolnshire County Council:
We would like to remind all families of the legal framework surrounding term-time holidays and the issuing of penalty notices for unauthorised absences, in conjunction with advice from the Local Authority.
Please be aware that there is no right of appeal against a penalty notice once it has been issued. The decision to authorise or unauthorise an absence rests solely with the Academy/School. It is important to remember you should discuss any concerns you have with the school before a leave of absence is considered.
We understand that some employers may restrict when holidays can be taken, and that travel costs can vary significantly throughout the year. However, neither of these factors constitutes an exceptional circumstance, according to guidance from the Department for Education, Working together to improve school attendance (applies from 19 August 2024) and Resources for families | Children's Commissioner for England and therefore cannot be considered, as a valid reason for authorising term-time leave.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in ensuring that your child’s education remains a priority.
