'The Best We Can Be'

PSHE

Intent

Our curriculum is designed to encourage the development of our school values: love, forgiveness, perseverance, kindness, honesty and respect, alongside meeting the specific needs of our community. All aspects of life at our school revolve around these values. We believe that all children are capable of learning and that through high quality, creative learning opportunities and high expectations all of our children will make good progress.

Implementation

We begin each term with our school value, which weave throughout the academic year. Lessons and units are knowledge and vocabulary rich so that pupils build on what they already know to develop powerful knowledge.

We prioritise creating a diverse curriculum by committing to diversity in teaching and teachers, and the language, texts and media we use, so all pupils feel positively represented. Creating an accessible curriculum that addresses the needs of all pupils is achieved to accessibility guidelines and requirements.

Impact

PSHE and RSE education helps children and young people to achieve their potential by supporting their wellbeing and tackling issues that can affect their ability to learn, such as anxiety and unhealthy relationships.

RSE Day 2024

On Thursday 27th June we celebrated RSE Day. We worked in groups with a mix of children from EYFS to Year 2. We loved working with different children and adults throughout the day. We loved the theme: ‘Embracing Change’ which we demonstrated throughout the day. Our Collective Worship at the beginning of the day we heard the story of ‘Sunil the Seed’ and also had opportunities to share our ideas with others. We loved learning and participating in activities:

  • Summer sports activities working with ‘Coach Ricky’ and working together!

  • Creative writing: a letter in the future back to ourselves expressing how proud we have been of embracing change, whether this a change at school or home. Lots of thought about our new classes and how we might feel after we have embraced this change with positivity.

  • Handprint butterflies: we thought about caterpillars changing into butterflies and how we change as we grow.

We also had a music/dance session, using the RSE official playlist from the Nottingham Music Hub. We also created a beautiful banner and worked together on a variety of activities throughout the day. We listened to topical stories, read by our teachers, such as ‘Waiting for Baby’ and ‘Two Nests’. We shared what we had enjoyed in Collective Worship together at the end of the day.

Mental Health Week 2024

We are a kind school

This year we had our World Kindness Day Virtual Assembly on Monday 13th November (coinciding with the first day of Anti-Bullying Week)! We also participated in a Kindness Workshop run by 52 Lives on Friday 10th November. We enjoyed both events and loved participating in this school of kindness to lead to use becoming a 'Kind School'. Click on the link above to learn more! At Branston Infant School we strive to live out of Kindness Core Value everyday and make a difference to ourselves and others around us.
